Chronic Conditions

2 minute read · updated September 17, 2026

Many childhood conditions require care over months or years rather than a single visit. Belleville Lake Pediatrics provides ongoing management for conditions such as asthma, allergies, eczema, constipation, recurring headaches, reflux, weight concerns, and other chronic health conditions.

Continuity is especially valuable when managing an ongoing condition. As a solo practice, your child will see the same pediatrician over time, allowing Dr. Maidlow to follow changes, recognize patterns, and understand what treatments have or have not worked for your child.

Ongoing care

How often your child needs to be seen depends on their condition and how well it is controlled. A newly diagnosed condition, new medication, or change in symptoms may require more frequent visits, while stable conditions can generally be followed less often.

At follow-up visits, we'll review how your child has been doing, whether the current treatment is working, and whether any changes are needed.

If your child's symptoms are changing or their current treatment does not seem to be working, please contact the office rather than waiting until the next scheduled visit.

Working with specialists

Some chronic conditions can be managed entirely at Belleville Lake Pediatrics, while others benefit from care with a pediatric specialist. When specialist care is needed, we can place referrals and continue to follow your child's overall health.

Please ask specialists to send their consultation notes and test results to our office so they can become part of your child's medical record. This helps us coordinate recommendations and keep everyone involved in your child's care working from the same information.

School forms and care plans

Chronic health conditions sometimes require paperwork for school or daycare, including medication authorization forms, asthma or allergy action plans, or documentation supporting school accommodations.

There is no fee for completing these forms for established patients. Please allow three to five business days for forms submitted separately from an appointment.

What to bring to your appointment

If applicable, please bring:

  • Your child's current medications, inhalers, spacers, or other medical devices
  • Any existing care plans
  • Records or test results from specialists that we have not already received
  • Forms from your child's school or daycare that need to be completed
  • Information about how often symptoms are occurring and how they are affecting sleep, school, activities, or daily life

Send us a message.
